Constraining a shape to an axis…

Here i animated a square on a axis. To do this I turned on the position and dragged the shape across each time I moved along the timeline.

Next I constrained the shape to straight lines by changing these settings to linear.

Making sure time is disrupted between pints equally..

By selecting the “Rove across time” key it makes sure your shape always moves with the same amount o time between each point. Image

Changing the time…

To pre-compose I duplicated the shape and moved it down the timeline. By changing the size I then created this effect…

I then followed the same process to create multiple shapes.

Professional practise, Walking motions.

As I talked about creating a animation to illustrate the evolution of Dr.Martens I have started to look at walking motions particularly looking at the positions of each body part whilst moving. I have been doing this to help my drawings. I thought I could create 30 illustrations of individual characters from each generation of Dr.Marten lovers! To inspire my drawings I’m going to use the 4 mood boards I’ve created. When I have collected 30 characters I am hoping to animate them in a walking motion morphing into one another.

To help my drawings I have took a short video of a model, with this is can pause it at different stages to revise the position of the body. Here’s some screenshots of the video…

Thinking and practise, After affects layer types.

Firstly I created a new composition and adjusted the appropriate settings. Then clicked layer new solid making it the same size as the composition.

Then I selected the pen tool and started to draw a closed shape. Effectively here I have cut out a mask. Using the selection tool I modified the shape. Then i twirled out the little triangle shown next to the layer and clicked on the drop down menu on the mask. To animate you click on the stopwatch then move the timeline along a little and then start to adjust the shape.

Adjust the feather and opacity to give the shape a nice finish. You can invert the layer and create as many paths as you want to make animation.

Then I looked at shapes rather than solids so I created a new composition and went on layer then new then shape layer. Under the shape tool theres many shapes you can play around with.

The last layer I looked at is the adjustment layer which is similar to the adjustment layer in photoshop. In After affects you can add adjustment layers on top of one another to add effects.
